Beaucanon Estate Merlot, 2001

A solid, clear garnet color with a nose that you can almost see, aromas of cherry liqueur, blackberry, licorice, black tea and brambly spice, touched with generous toasty oak burst from your glass. The palate is no less sumptuous, echoing the bouquet and adding layers of dark berries, apple and cherry. The terroir of our Oakville Vineyard shines through with tastes of dust and dark loam. Tannins are big and velvety while the Cabernet Franc provides a bit of lively acidity that keeps the amazing fruit flavors dancing on your tongue for a long, smooth finish. A big wine without any rough edges; it will be a revelation for all those who thought of Merlot as a lesser grape. On its own, it’s fantastic; paired with grilled sausages, pork chops with cherries and roasted vegetables, it’s beyond words!
